Allergy Consultations: Allergic Rhinitis and Anaphylaxis Clinic
We see anybody who suspects they have allergic rhinitis (hayfever) or suspected anaphylaxis for any reason, including venom allergies (bees and wasps).
We see both children and adults.
We are particularly excited to offer desensitisation to sufferers of allergic rhinitis (hayfever) and bees/wasp allergy. Desensitisation is the only treatment that actually alters the natural course of the disease for allergy sufferers: Immunotherapy
Dr James Chisnall is a Specialist General Practitioner (FRNZCGP), caring for children and adults, with post graduate training in both Allergic Disease and Child Health
What to expect?
You will receive an initial consultation of 45 minutes with James. In order to ensure best care a referral note from your GP is highly recommended. You and your GP will receive a comprehensive letter regarding the consult, and an individualised action plan for the allergy.
A follow up appointment will then be arranged to discuss any investigations and progress. The follow up appointment may be in person or by phone/Skype, depending on circumstances.
Please note enrolled General Practice patients of Greenwood Health will receive a different service, so if you are enrolled enquire directly with reception.
What not to expect
Unfortunately in New Zealand when it comes to allergy services it is very much a case of buyer beware! We will not offer you tests and treatment of dubious benefit.
The following article by the Australasian Society of Clinical Allergy and Immunology is worth reading: Unorthodox testing and treatment.
You don't need to take our word for it. Allergy NZ, a non profit patient advocacy group, has vetted these services for you: Allergy specialists and other useful contacts

What is the cost?
An initial consult is $240 + gst ($276), and follow up is $160 + gst ($184).
Payment will need to be received at the time of booking the consultation. Cancellations less than 48 hours before the appointment will not be refunded.
Desensitisation costs are separate and vary according to the allergy and type of treatment.
